Lab 1 - 01 Whispers Between Stone and Sky
There are not just roads etched by footprints but by stories yet to be told. Working in Datong Daily Media Group Co., Ltd., I was privileged to be part of the scripting and production of DEEP IN SHANXI - SHANXI MERCHANTS, an interactive documentary series that tried to bridge past and present, local and global, and traditional and rediscovery.
The old roads still whisper. Can you hear them?
Through Rees, a British traveller, we reinvented Shanxi merchants' heritage, once the blood that pulsed through China’s commerce veins. But it was never just about commerce; it was about the quiet weight of the past, the silenced voices in worn corridors, the concealed stories buried in weathered brick and stained account books. My role was to weave these moments into narrative, so every word, every scene, breathed with the past but spoke to a modern audience.
As the documentary gathered momentum on the major sites, I knew we had created something more than a film—it was an opening, an introduction to a world that still lingers just below the surface of modern Shanxi. Some stories get lost, but others—when told well—are reborn.
