Lab 1 - 02 Emotional Corner
Silence is not always empty. Sometimes it is weighty—a suffocating stillness beneath the weight of unspoken emotions.
East Asian cultures get strength mixed up with suppression. We are taught to endure, to keep our hurts locked away, to smile as we break. But emotions do not disappear when they are dismissed—they simmer, they rust, they find their way out in ways we do not. We are forfeiting our ability to feel.
In keeping with that, I created "Emotional Corner", an interactive space designed to give quiet contemplation in the most unemotional setting—the office. Here, amidst the humdrum of daily routines, we invited individuals to step in, away from masks and expectations, and simply be.
Here, ten individual prompts challenged the participants to speak, to reflect, to release—to give voice to moments of joy, disappointment, and pride. With no judgment, no fear, but the exercise of taking back one's feelings. They took away with them a customized emotional range, a mirror to their inner world, reflecting what they had been avoiding.
And the response?
Over 1,500 individuals engaged in this inner dialogue. The ripple effect spread wider—2 million social media views, an industry awareness increase, and a collective awareness that emotion is not a sign of weakness. It is the quiet proof that we are alive.
