UIC is not just my university; it is a canvas that has sparked my imagination. Amongst all the moments I've captured here, the sunset is one that is special—a fleeting masterpiece that transforms familiar locations into something entirely new.
As the sun sets, the buildings at UIC absorb the golden light and transform into a color that is neither red nor yellow but a soft in-between. It is this that caught my attention: What is this color? I extracted its most faithful rendition—HEX: #E8A467—a warm, nostalgic color that, in classical Chinese color theory, recalls 赬霞 (Cheng Xia), a poetic color that recalls the glow of distant clouds.
This discovery was a source of inspiration in my work. Color is not merely aesthetics; it is something that affects perception, provokes memory, and creates mood. How light alters the familiar is something that influences my design process, where nothing is set and everything matters.
One evening, when the sun dipped behind the walls of UIC, I learned that inspiration tends to manifest itself in quiet, understated moments. Fleeting brilliance, a shift in hue, a transfiguration of the mundane—are the triggers of my creative process.
