The Shape of Expression

Lab 3 — 01 The Motion of Memory

Design is living rhythm, both on the page and on the screen. In Lab3: Form and Expression, I discovered how stories flow—visually, conceptually, emotionally.

The Chinese Cuisine Newsletter is more than a collection of words and pictures; it is an experience. The structured yet free-flowing format is a reflection of the harmony of flavors in Chinese food. Text placement, white space, and typeface form a visual rhythm—each page evoking the harmony of taste, history, and culture.

Meanwhile, 100 Years of Bauhaus brings design history into motion. With a series of GIFs, Bauhaus’ strict geometry is brought to life—lines transform, forms change, structure is dynamic. This movement is a testament to the evolution of Bauhaus, from strict minimalism to a design ethos that still reigns supreme over contemporary aesthetics.

Posters also play a major role in my study of motion within static design. In works like Futures Art Station, Brand Voice, and FromZara, composition, layering, and distortion provide the illusion of motion. Typography distorts, waves ripple over portraits, geometric forms pulse as echoes. They blur the line between stillness and action, showing that even in print, design is always moving.

Whether you're turning a page, watching a GIF transition, or decoding the hidden meaning of a poster, it's always the same thing: to create a dynamic visual experience—not on a screen, but in the viewer's mind.
